PROJECTS

2023
POLONNARUWA & HAMBANTOTA DISTRICTS
HopeScope’s 2023 Phase 1 book donation project reached out to over 3000 children in under-privileged rural areas to support school children to remain in school and have continued access to school education, during this period of extreme economic hardship in Sri Lanka faced by most low income house holds. Accordingly we reached out to children in a total of 17 schools in Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts
Students received packs of books sufficient for a school year, and refreshments. These were distributed to the deserving children from the following schools.

2019
TRINCOMALEE & HAMBANTOTA DISTRICTS
2019 saw us complete our biggest project to date, in terms of the funds raised, children reached, schools helped and geographical areas across the country. The project covered 3 areas across the country, starting from Trincomalee, then the Hambantota district, and finally Colombo.
The project took place in 3 phases, each representing the location within the country as follows,
28th November 2019 – Trincomalee
04th December 2019 – Hambantota
05th December 2019 onwards - Colombo
We were able to expand our operations by reaching children in the East of the country, while sustaining our efforts from 2018 by helping the children from the schools in the Hambantota district and Colombo as well. Thanks to all the amazing donors, we were able to raise Rs. 10 MILLION towards this cause in 2019.
The funds raised were used for purchasing the required school supplies a child would require for 1 year of schooling - square ruled books, single ruled books, CR books, drawing books, coloured pencils, chalk, rulers, pens & pencils, erasers, sharpeners, instrument boxes, pencil cases, school bags, and shoes. These were given to 3000 deserving children from the following schools.

IN ADDITION...
Members of the HopeScope Foundation donated a three wheeler to the family of a student who studies at Pallemalala Vidyalaya in Hambantota on Tuesday, 19th of November 2019.
This has paved the way for her to attend school without any hassle in the mode of transportation. Our special gratitude goes to the Principal and the teachers of the Pallemalala Vidyalaya for bringing this requirement to our attention.

2018
HAMBANTOTA DISTRICT
Let us make sure all our kids have the opportunity to go to school with the essential necessities. We believe any kind act of generosity in terms of a donation can help a child stay in school another year, as they should. In 2018 we raised Rs. 8 MILLION towards this cause.
The funds were used for purchasing the required supply of square ruled books, single ruled books, CR books, drawing books, coloured pencils, chalk, rulers, pens & pencils, erasers, sharpeners, instrument boxes, pencil cases, school bags, and shoes. These were shared among 2500 deserving children from 9 schools, and a few hundred children from families in need.
WE WERE ABLE TO HELP THE BELOW SCHOOLS IN 2018:
• Gonnoruwa Junior School approximately 219 children

AS WELL AS...
A few hundred of students from low income families across the country where parents and guardians are finding it difficult to provide the basic education, as well as an all girls orphanage.
2017
Our projects in 2017 were mainly focused on 2 districts; Hambantota and Ampara. In both districts we covered 3 schools each, providing them with a year's worth of school necessities, clothes and shoes.
Hambantota District
The students in the area we reached were feeling the terrible effects of poverty, coming from families with most parents holding low-income occupations such as fishermen or saltern workers. However, what amazed us most was the dedication shown by both the teachers and students in these schools who strive to defy their odds and work towards a better future every day. The teachers are constantly finding ways to keep students engaged despite the lack of audio-visual equipment required and the student in turn continue to show commendable results at national level examinations. The tragic turn of the story is that due to the financial situation, most children are uncertain of stepping towards a new grade in each new year.
Schools reached in Hambantota:
Pallemalla Prmary School
Yahangala Primary School
Bandagiriya Primary School
Ampara District
A district that has been beaten down by the decades of ruthless terrorism, the children in Ampara face more than just the financial struggles with most of them having lost either one or both their parents to the war. When we visited them, despite their hardships the children were excited to greet us with their biggest smiles and their enthusiasm to learn was obvious. The destruction of war not only affected the families but the infrastructure of the area itself, with even the school that came under attack needing aid to rebuild themselves.
Schools reached in Ampara
Bogamuyaya Primary School
Kudaharasgala Central School
Pulawala Central School
